Yes, a food that a Labrador will NOT eat.

Like any dog Abby Lab likes to beg for food, During meals she's not allowed to do so at the table and knows that when we're done and if she behaves she gets a little piece of fresh cooked chicken I keep in the fridge just for her.

Anything coming out of the refrigerator is fair game to a Labrador.  I know there are some veggies and fruits dogs should not have as they are toxic.
NOT safe for dogs
grapes
raisins
onions
garlic
cherries
mushrooms
currants
raw and green potato
rhubarb
apple SEEDS
Are you gonna eat that?

But carrots are good. So, as I was putting my decorative things back up now that the new cabinets are in,  I got out some sliced carrot sticks to take a break and nibble on, Abby gave me the seriously "I'm SO starving" look.  I figured she'd enjoy it, Barkley the Lab adored  frozen peas, Brussels sprouts and little bits of apple without seeds.

So I gave it to her.

SPEW!

She promptly spit it out and went back to begging for ANOTHER one.

SPEW!

Sigh.

So Blogville - what foods do your pets dislike?

  5. We will eat carrots, green beans, blueberries, apples, and sometimes strawberries. We don't like melon, oranges, broccoli, or bananas. We love banana in our treats but not fresh banana. Mom says we are just the opposite of her - she only likes fresh bananas, no muffins or bread, thank you.

  7. Hailey has just learned to like carrots. I can't think of anything Hailey won't eat. Zaphod is my picky eater, he doesn't really like fruits or veggies.

  8. Hey Abby!
Wow, you are right on the money with this! I say a big "BLECH" to all veggies and most fruits too. BOL. Hold out for the chicken. Fake fainting from hunger and see if that helps. Trust me, there are better foodables (aka MEAT)available.

    1. Sarge - any chance your Mom would share her beefy recipe for your chow. I know the general ingredients just not the amounts. I have a touchy stomach but she doesn't like feeding me just kibble.

  9. Our Lab mix Luke loves carrots!! He'll eat just about any safe vegetables and brussels sprouts are even a favorite with his sisters, who are far more picky than he is (beagle and golden retriever). I did offer him a piece of raw red pepper the other day though and he didn't eat it....I was shocked!

    1. Janet - Barkley once did the whole "eat a piece of lemon" make a horrible face like it was terrible, chew it slowly and swallowed it no faster, obviously not enjoying it and then BEGGED for another piece. Thanks for stopping!

  10. Speaking for my Cherry who has crossed the bridge herself. She loved watermelon. She would eat an entire slice by herself and ask for more.
