Normally they all get along, but I've noticed an ongoing turf war between the scrappy gray squirrels and the plumper grumpy red squirrels.
Mr. Red Squirrel had the seeds to himself. (Actually here in Chicagoland the red colored squirrels aren't true North American "Red" squirrels but are Eastern Fox Squirrels.)
Along comes an interloper, Mr. Gray Squirrel.
What next?
"Mom, they're using the Force again!"
So far, there is much harmony at our bird feeders - but we only have grey squirrels. I will have to keep an eye open for any interlopers.

Haha. We had Christmas with my sister today and they have a lot of bird feeders and I so enjoyed watching the birds, especially the really fat jays. I want a feeder now.
ReplyDeleteDid you get to go out and break up that squirrel fight? I think the Evil Squirrel Cartel is resting up in the cold weather here. I haven't seen one in a couple days.
ReplyDeleteThat's so funny! Do they really fight? We only have gray squirrels around here. Thanks for the reminder to get some bird seed.
ReplyDeleteThey pounce and chase each other. No one seems to get hurt.
DeleteOn our walk today, we watched three of those giant black crows having quite the fight. They were squawking away at each other and flapping their wings. Then they would fly off and two seemed to go after the third. Mom says she thinks it may have been a squabble over a female:)

We think seeds might be cheaper than the ground beef our Magpies eat. But fun watching the squirrels scrapping.
ReplyDeleteoh how interesting to watch squirrel tv... I place a chewing bone on the red ones...please keep me informet who won ;o)
ReplyDeleteThe squirrels in my neighborhood are complete hoodlums with no fear of any urban wildlife, dog or human. I'll let them know you've set a fine banquet out. 😉
