When Lighting Fireworks, Be Considerate to the Neighborhood pets.

My dogs go crazy with fireworks.  Normally we go to a friend's farm in Illinois to get away from the noise but they are in the middle of harvest due to the weird weather so company is not a good idea.  So we're toughing it out in the city where fireworks go on for 4 days straight, illegal loud ones the police do nothing about. If we're not at my friend's farm, I usually go to a hotel near the airport where there are no fireworks (being shot at more than once, I don't like the fireworks either). But I don't want to leave Lorelei alone with just Dad.  We'll get through this, even if it means noise-canceling headsets.

  1. We had 3 nights for Canada Day and who knows why last night. Hailey did ok.

  2. Yep...we've had boomers going since they started selling them on Monday(they are legal here in Northy North Cali) and will be hearing them for the next week...Action adventure movies played loud are usually our "go to" calming technique.

  3. Pets, veterans and survivors from mass shootings...they all deserve a break from these noisy wretched things.

  4. We could use a few headsets like that here too. For the first time, Misty is now afraid of thunder and fireworks:(.

Stay safe, and Happy Fourth of July!!!

  5. I've read that Phos 30c is really good for helping dogs with loud noises (not sure about people) but haven't had occasion to try it. Perhaps you might research it to see if it would help. I understand that it is sold in the vitamin section at Walmart and is inexpensive, too, which is always nice. Luckily our puppers don't seem to be bothered. But we live out in the country and they often hear guns go off, so are probably just used to the sound.

  6. With taxes in Illinois going way up with our new governor there were a lot less fireworks this year (an extra $1 on every pack of cigarettes, and 39 cents on every gallon of gas.) People in our working class neighborhood were NOT driving to Indiana to buy illegal fireworks. Other than the night of the 4th, not a peep.
