Sleeping with Pets - A Question?

Abby Lab will NOT get up on our bed to sleep.  Barkley only would when my husband was on the road, and then would leave to go guard the front door as soon as I started drifting off.

Abby might jump up and snoot us if breakfast is late, but even if invited she won't lay down.

So how many of you share your bed with pets and what are some of your more hilarious moments?

  2. There was the time Cody dog climbed the girl's ladder to the top bunk, but couldn't figure out how to get back down... Cody spent most of his life sleeping in the bed with Monkey3, but she had the bottom bunk. Charlie would belly-crawl UNDER our bed and sleep, but not on it. Shiloh often sleeps on Monkey1's bed or sometimes Monkey3's (during the day).

  3. Sigh, we aren't allowed upstairs where all the human beds are - something about too much fur everywhere:( One of these days . . . a dog can dream, right?

  4. All 3 of our dogs sleep with us...Not many funny stories, but there have been many a night where my husband and I end up sleeping in a very small space because all three of our dogs(all under 20 pounds)sleep horizontally and hog the rest of the king size bed! LOL!

  5. we share our bed and my fate is to be the base of a "weim-pile" every night... and I wonder that they are as long as cargo trains at night... a miracle..

  6. Dougie Dog (like Goldilocks and the three Bears) sleeps in whichever "human" bed he chooses ... day or night! With or without the human(s) there! Downstairs he may curl up with the Mom & Dad. Upstairs he is likely, at night to start with the Grandma (the Zoolatry Human/Blogger) ... but at some point always wanders off into the Grandboys room and spends the rest of his night there, curled up next to the "kid". They are the best buddies ... of course, he does have his "own bed" in the living room, and another in the family room but they are only for daytime naps it seems. Obviously, he rules.

  7. Joey dog used to sleep on the bed with ghostwriter and dad. But he tended to be too twitchy, itchy, and flatulent. So he got kicked out. Old Charisma used to sleep on the siblings' beds all the time.

  8. Phod will come for snuggles but does not stay (he may have stayed once in 6.5 years). Lee hogs the bed.

  9. Magic understood that staying on the ONE designated armchair was her end of the deal when she spent nights indoors; pawed at the (unlocked) door to wake me when she needed to go out. Even with all the other fantastic Social Cats and Listening Cats I've known, Magic was a once-in-a-lifetime cat.

After some years of cats living outdoors except in medical emergencies, Iris developed a chronic, intractable strep infection and insisted that cold damp air would reactivate her cough. She persuaded me to let her spend most of the winter in the warm room. She sat on my lap at the computer and learned to lie down and take a nap when I began typing. When I wasn't typing she wanted to play, and when *I* lay down she snuggled sweetly right across my neck. I had some concerns, but it was easier just to let them go and cooperate with my four-pound dominatrix...and I never became ill.

Iris's sister Heather slept indoors on a few very cold nights, and knew instinctively how to snuggle around the crack between the quilt and my shoulder. Her other sister Irene slept at my feet, so one shoulder always remained in a draught! During one extremely cold spell they allowed the junior cats, Inky and Sisawat, to come indoors too, but nonverbally directed them to stay off my bed.

(Irene was the one who was offered a much-needed operation by a generous e-friend, then died just before the operation was scheduled. Inky was the one who got the operation and, thanks to it, her Purrmanent Home. To the shelter people one big Manx-mix cat is the same as another...)

Current resident cats have slept indoors only in emergencies, in a cage. Serena was born indoors but this winter, when asked if she wanted to come in for the night, she insisted that the earth-floored cellar was warm enough. As a spring kitten she had the size, coat, and attitude of a mature cat by October.

  10. This is so timely, I woke up this morning with Elsa's head straddling my lower back. I thought I was dreaming I couldn't roll over! It wasn't a dream, I had a fat head on me!
