Dad Update and a Memory

Dad's bladder infection is clearing up and they may let him go home tonight or tomorrow.  My cousin will be there if need be, and a local grandson this weekend if he needs some help til I come out again. I wish he'd come live with us but he's insistent he wants to end his days in his home of 60 years.

Thank you again for your thoughts and prayers and words of support and kindness.  The photo above was from his 91st birthday, where he made burgers on the grill at my Indiana home and spoiled Barkley.  I hope to be in such good shape at 91 (I'm afraid at 91 I'll pretty much resemble a whacked can of Pillsbury biscuits).  That summer he was still doing Nautilus at the gym four days a week and golfing regularly.  But the last couple of years have been tough, especially losing my brother and stepmom, and we know his days are fewer and fewer.

Some sleep and then some thanks of my own, for family and friends that are there when we need it.

  1. So glad to hear he is better and you are home (that was faster than we expected). Everything is complicated by age at this point but sounds like he has taken care of himself so that should work in his favor! Cherish these days!

    Your Pals,

  2. Thanks Murphy and Stanley - I got off work early since Dad was hospitalized. My employer has been awesome the last four years with my StepMom's illness and death, my brother, and now Dad. I have NO sick leave left at this point, but there was enough to cover the worst of it.

  3. Ma's been bad abouts catchin' up with my bloggies, so I missed hearin' abouts your Pops. I sent him healin' vibes and keepin' my paws crossed for him! I am sendin' you AireZens because my heart aches for you knowing your vibrant Pops is dimming ever so slightly...it reminds us that nothing is forever and our SuperDads will eventually leave us. Til that day, love, laugh and smile...it's the best we can do ☺

I just noticed in the sidebar that you are working on another book! I really enjoyed your first two, so I can't wait for the next one.

Hoorah for health improvements; I can sympathise with the difficulty of getting a father to consider moving out - my fella is approaching his 80th but has Parkinson's and despite really going downhill, just will not talk to us about anything - but is always happy when he is being looked after! Hey ho... all we can do is love them... Hugs and blessings for your visit. YAM xx

  10. Awe glad he is doing better :) My great Aunt Helen was like that she wanted to be in her home even though we tried to get her to live with us. I hope he continues to do well!
