A Food a Labrador Retriever will NOT Eat.

Like any dog Abby Lab likes to beg for food, During meals she's not allowed to do so at the table and knows that when we're done and if she behaves she gets a little piece of fresh cooked chicken I keep in the fridge just for her.

Anything coming out of the refrigerator is fair game to a Labrador.  I know there are some veggies and fruits dogs should not have as they are toxic.

NOT safe for dogs
grapes
raisins
onions
garlic
cherries
mushrooms
currants
raw and green potato
rhubarb
apple SEEDS
Are you gonna eat that?

But carrots are good. So, as I was putting together a meatloaf dinner I got out some carrots to peel for cooking. Abby gave me the seriously "I'm SO starving" look.  I figured she'd enjoy it, Barkley the Lab adored frozen peas, Brussels sprouts and little bits of apple without seeds.

So I peeled and cut her a little piece of carrot and gave it to her.

SPEW!

She promptly spit it out and went back to begging for ANOTHER one.

SPEW!

Sigh.

So Blogville - what foods do your pets dislike?

  2. Some things even a Ridgeback won't eat: iceberg lettuce, cherry Gummi candy, cabbage.

  3. Mine love cooked carrots, but chew up and spit out raw. I haven't found a dog yet who would eat lettuce unless it was covered in salad dressing. Lexi hated bananas, but they are a treat to Lucy and Xena.

  4. We will eat carrots but we don't like them that much. We love green beans, lettuce, apples, peaches, nectarines. Bananas? Not so much unless they are in treats or muffins. We also love wallymelon and canteloupe. Mom says there isn't much we won't eat.

  5. We didn't know there were any foods a Lab wouldn't eat...but now we see it's 'shouldn't' eat. We had the great Watermelon experiment the other day. After SHE cleaned it up off the floor, we settled for a meat treat. (We spit out raw carrots, too.)

  7. I can't bring chocolate home any more (even when I trust it not to make ME sick) because Heather likes it and will try to lick wrappers or boxes. Oh well...at least, this time of year, there's still a local brand of chocs I can eat in town!

  8. I love peas and carrots! And broccoli, and brussel's sprouts, and cauliflower, and green beans … Well, better to say what I don't like: celery, cucumbers, zucchini. Yup. That's about it!
