4th of July

Abby Lab here.  There are not going to be any posts the next few days.  Mom is fleeing the city with all the firework noise (since she's been shot at, she gets a little jumpy with all the pop pop popping that goes on literally all day for 2-4 days during Independence Day celebrations).

She has a dear friend who is a retired Professor of Creative Writing and a Christian author who lives out in the middle of Illinois farm country and she is going to go chill with her and her husband with horse, doggies, and kitties. She packed up her Swedish waffle iron, maple syrup, chocolate cookies, homemade lefse, white wine and some books and clothes and will head out mid-day tomorrow, using some vacation time.

The photo above will be her evening view tomorrow night.  MUCH better than "splody" Chicagoland.

I'm staying home with Dad as he returns from a trip while I chill with MY dog sitter.  He's then going to do some noisy home improvement stuff that's best done when Mom is NOT home trying to write. Mom is leaving him cold beer, leftover chicken, sandwich stuff with homemade bread,  half a meatloaf, corn on the cob, and taters and biscuits so he won't starve (and if Dad gives me an extra treats I'll tell him where Mom hid the last salted caramel ice cream sandwich!)

I was invited to join her, but as it's 100+ heat index she didn't want to do a long drive in isolated areas with me in case of car trouble. (high mileage and high heat never mix well).

Dad and I will have fun.  He said something about "Poker and Metallica!"

    1. We live in one of those states where it is illegal to buy them or use them and they go off constantly all over the city. The police to NOT enforce the law. We had someone setting off large bottle rockets in the alley right behind our house. Cops stopped and said "don't do that", and as soon as they drove off they started again. No one gets fined so no one complies.

  3. We're sorry to hear your mom has to retreat to the country to get away from all those firecrackers. We have lots of neighbors that shoot them off here too but fortunately none of us are bothered by it. We just bark at the noise.

  4. We hope your Mom has a restful and peaceful time away. It should be interesting here to see how we all react to the fireworks. Lightning, who is afraid of so many things, has no problem with fireworks. But Misty has developed concerns about thunderstorms recently so we aren't sure what will happen. And it will be Timber's first 4th here, so who knows?

Have a safe and happy 4th.

  5. Momma is gauging how bad the fireworks sounds are at the new house this year. We're pretty close to where the city does their show. We hope your momma gets some peace and quiet.

  7. Abby hugs to your sweet mama and safe travels to a quiet peace of land. We can nearly taste the waffles.
My sis and her hubby were at the Las Vegas Concert on Oct 1, 2017 during that horrible massacre. They were not hurt physically. People at first thought the noise was firecrackers. Sissy's hubby immediately recognized it as high power bullets. They were able to escape out the back by climbing 2 fences and running in a dark alley.
