Wait - what's that lady doing. She's throwing
peanuts on the ground!
I must be wary, I think it's a trap.
One second I'm getting a peanut, the next . . . .
I'll just pretend to get a drink of water and check it out.
Wait - another squirrel just grabbed a peanut!
He was almost at the lady's feet and she didn't bother him.
I'm STILL not sure though.
Maybe if I make myself really tall
and scary she'll leave.
Those are some pretty cheeky squirrels!
ReplyDeleteThe Man started feeding the chipmunks this year but they got too bold and Lee almost caught one!
ReplyDeleteThat reminds us of the story Mom tells about her aunt who had just moved in to a new house (new to her). At the top of the stairs to the second floor there was a window that overlooked the yard. A big tree grew there and one of the branches almost touched the window. Every morning a squirrel would come to the window and literally tap on the glass with his paws. It freaked Mom's aunt out, but she later found out that the previous owner would leave peanuts on the window sill for those critters!!!

When I first got hired by an airline as a pilot I was living on this tiny houseboat on the Columbia River west of Portland. When I first moved in, there was a tap tap tap on the glass of the sliding door to the tiny deck. Since there was only water out there I was a bit surprised. I turned on the light to see a duck. Same thing. The previous resident used to feed it, and when it saw the light it figured it was dinner time.

The squirrels in my neighborhood are not shy. At all. I found one up on my front porch this week, big as life, looking to break in (they have eaten through the kitchen screen three times. 😲
ReplyDeletePoor little squirrel need to eat too.
ReplyDeleteJeff use to purchase peanuts at the feed store
they showed up each day when he got home from work.
We don't have them here at the new house.
