Abby Lab Says - My Pawrents are WEIRD!

If I lay here, Dad will get home sooner.

Abby T. Lab here.  My paw-rents may seem all normal to all you but I have to tell you, they are actually rather STIR-RANGE.  Case in point, a conversation Friday night when Dad got home.

Mom:  Hon - could you please pick up that small pile of clothes on the bathroom floor and take to the laundry room? (in the basement)

Dad:  Your knee bothering you?

Mom:  No, a giant spider just ran under them and although I stomped on the pile for a while, it might still be lying in wait.
Seriously Dad? Mom's afraid of a pile of underwear?

Dad:  (sigh)  You have rappelled into a canyon in the dark, you have landed an airplane as a typhoon approached and I've seen you up to your elbows in enough gore to make a maggot gag. . . .and you're afraid of spiders.

Mom:  It was HUGE!!!

Dad:  How big?

Mom:  The size of a QUARTER!

Dad (chuckling):  That's not huge!

Mom:  Spiders the size of a quarter can skeletonize a cow in under two minutes.

Dad (laughing and pointing outside):  Look! a centipede is stealing your hubcaps!

See what I mean folks - non-stop weirdness in this house.

But they feed me treats!

  1. Mom spotted one of those HUGE quarter-sized spiders in the basement last week and stomped it dead. Sheesh - you would think she could have let us at it first.

  4. Tell your Mom that I totally understand where she's coming from!! She and I both know that those spiders know full well that they have been put on this earth to terrorize people like us! :-)

  6. I look at the other dead bugs in a spider web and thing, "good." Then I think about the spider and its web in the Lord of the Rings (or was it the Hobbit?) and think, I could be next! I also get someone else to come kill the soon-to-be-giant spider.

  7. Your mom may be on to something. Around my house it's the mom who's the spider killer. Everyone else squeals like little girls. Treats are always good for whatever ails you.

  8. I'm not sure that's weirdness so much as prudence. You never know when it comes to spiders. Those suckers are not to be trusted, even when stomped upon.

  9. As you as you get treats on time you can ignore this strange banter. Why didn't your mom just shoot the spider?

  11. We have some pretty science geeky conversations in our house. But no one's afraid of spiders. In fact, we welcome them.
